Certified Mold Professional (CMP) Program
Objective:
The Certified Mold Professional (CMP) Program is a course of study which includes a series of three mold courses. The top level class, the Certified Mold Professional must be preceded by the two mold classes outlined under "Education". The program's objective is to raise committed remediators to a higher level of professionalism. The CMP course emphasizes the inter-relatedness of building systems and the predominance of situations where indoor environmental quality is impacted by multiple problems or contaminants.
Experience
All candidates to the Certified Mold Professional (CMP) Program must have a minimum of 3 years of verifiable restoration experience. Vendors who sell goods and services to mold remediators, but who do not perform mold remediation themselves, are not in the practice of mold remediation.
Education
CMP candidates must have completed the Mold Remediation Technician Course (Industry-related mold courses of comparable content may be substituted [with exam score of 80% or better]) and the Mold Remediation Project Supervisor Course.
Transfer Fee
If transferring an approved 3-day industry mold course, a transfer fee will apply.
Candidates must complete the Certified Mold Professional Course and successfully pass the written examination with a score of 80% or better.
Registration
A registration fee must accompany the registration form to reserve a seat in the class, along with the following:
- Application For Candidacy
Candidates must complete and return their Applications for Candidacy for the Certified Mold Professional Program.
Applicants must authorize RIA and its designated investigative agency to perform credit, civil, and criminal background checks. Applicants who fail to be admitted because of this background check will be provided a copy of the report.
Applicants must agree to have their names published in an industry publications as part of the program.
- Estimates
Send copies of 3 estimates you have recently done for a mold remediation project.
Formal Report
On completion of the class, candidates must prepare a formal report or a thesis on an approved research topic.
Ethics
Candidates must sign the applicable RIA ethics statement.
Maintaining Certified Mold Professional Status
Certified Mold Professionals must participate in a recertification program and maintain current membership in RIA International in order to retain their CMP status. All CMP continuing education is based on a three-year continuous cycle. All CMPs are required to participate, and all required points must be earned within the time frame.
4-Point System
- All RIA sponsored educational functions will receive one point for each educational day with a maximum of 3 points per event, i.e. a two-day seminar will be worth two points, a five-day seminar will be worth three points.
- The RIA Annual Convention & Exhibition: three points for full registered attendee.
- Applicants must be in compliance with all applicable laws and public regulations that apply to the person's profession and locale.
A re-certification fee will apply to cover administrative costs at the completion of each three-year term.
